Due to maternity leave, we have a fantastic opportunity to join our Progression to Learning & Work  Department as an Intervention Officer.

As an Intervention Officer, you will support our students to succeed in gaining a qualification and develop their personal skills in a calm, friendly environment by ensuring our Positive Behaviour policies are applied. Student Intervention and Liaison Team Officers work with students to maximise their punctuality and attendance and liaise with parents/carers and partner school/organisations to ensure students are on target to achieve.

Your approach with students should be respectful and professional at all times, exercising patience, empathy and understanding of their backgrounds and needs. You should have ssound knowledge of the social, economic and personal factors which present risk to students, and be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.

 

This is a term-time role, therefore you will be working 30 hours per week, 40 weeks per year.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for managing a caseload of “at risk” learners
  • To ensure appropriate records, registers, staff and student timetables are monitored and utilised to identify learners falling below target grade.
  • To ensure that systems are in place to monitor SMART actions.
  • To communicate and manage parent and carer intervention meetings
  • To maintain a safe and secure learning environment by ensuring regular risk assessments are undertaken in regards to parental meetings on campus.
  • To contribute to the collegial culture, mission and strategic objectives and to work with colleagues in other curriculum and service areas across the College.
  • To promote positive behaviour policy
  • To be compliant with the College’s e-learning modules
  • To liaise with Parents, carers, tutors and support assistants to support learners to achieve.
  • To co-ordinate and be responsible for the effective administration intervention put in place.
  • To be compliant with College Equality and Diversity policies and procedures.
  • To undertake additional duties that may be required commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post.

Education & Training

  • GCSE 9 - 4 or nationally recognised qualification in Maths or equivalent (E.g. GCSE A*-C, CSE 1, O-Level A-C)
  • GCSE 9 - 4 or nationally recognised qualification in English or equivalent (E.g. GCSE A*-C, CSE 1, O-Level A-C)
  • A minimum of a full level 3 qualification

Experience

  • Extensive experience of the complexities of pre-16 education, in particular as it relates to alternative provision.
  • Successful experience of working with young people on a 1:1 and group basis to achieve their career goals (in education, youth work or a community setting)
  • Proven experience of working with parents/carers of children and young people
  • Experience of working with challenging young people to improve behaviour and attitude to learning.
  • Experience of putting in place interventions that have improved a learner’s progress/improve behaviour/attendance
  • Experience of supervising/leading individuals/a group to successful outcomes
