We have a fantastic opportunity for an Academic Coach to join our dynamic and growing Health Sciences, Meditech and Technology Department.

Our Academic Coaches identify and support all students in achieving their expected target grade.

The role is also responsible for providing intervention support to the students that have gaps in literacy, numeracy and academic skills to remove the barriers to learning. The role also involves managing and supporting the academic success of individual students by providing personal support following referral from curriculum teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide SMART targets to support the student achievement

  • Referral to other support services as appropriate

  • Contributing to student progression and career plans

  • Co-ordinate support and intervention strategies and packages, both internal and external, for groups of students.

  • Manage and co-ordinate the supervision of student who are not working to a normal timetable.

  • Monitor and evaluate student’s responses and progress against action plans through observation and planned recording and to provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required.

  • Undertake administrative tasks, manage, and maintain record systems and processes, including the use of EBS.

  • Provide initial classroom supervision in the short term/ unplanned absence of a qualified teacher.

Education & Training

  • GCSE 4-9 (A*-c) or nationally recognised level 2 qualification in maths or equivalent (e.g. CSE 1, O Level A-C)

  • GCSE 4-9 (A*-c) or nationally recognised level 2 qualification in English or equivalent (e.g. CSE 1, O Level A-C)

  • Are willing to achieve a Level 3 Certificate in Personal Tutoring within an agreed time frame

Experience

  • Successful experience of working with young people on a 1:1 and group basis to achieve their career goals (in education, youth work or a community setting)

  • Proven experience of working with parents/carers of young people

  • Ability to work well with and relate to pupils and other professionals

  • Knowledge of how to use relevant equipment/resources including ICT packages
