We have a fantastic opportunity for a Barbering Assessor to join our dedicated and exciting Professional & Leisure Services Department.

Working with students and the curriculum team, the Barber Trainer Assessor will provide a quality, inspirational, learning experience for barbering students through our Signature salons. You will be a supportive member of the Hairdressing team and lead on developing the commercial barber salon. You will embrace future initiatives that will enhance our students’ journey whilst delivering an outstanding curriculum provision.

This role will be working 7.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day running of the commercial barbering salon linking the services to student assessment

  • Train barbering students to develop current barbering skills and techniques as reflected in the industry

  • To assess the work and progress of all barbering students and provide them with constructive and timely feedback that enables them to progress

  • To co-ordinate barbering services that meet the needs of local demand and curriculum needs

  • To participate in the maintenance and promotion of close links with employers

  • Engage in professional development concerning learning and assessment, including the use of an evidence-informed approach

  • Contribute to outreach and/or widening participation activity within the department

  • Maintain records of formative and summative assessments of students’ learning carried out

  • To ensure that the enrolment, induction, monitoring, profiling and initial assessment of students are completed promptly and in line with college policies

  • Devise individual and inclusive learning plans and provide support for learners in line with the requirements of the curriculum

  • To meet the internal student progression targets from level to level

  • To be responsible for student discipline, counselling and guidance related to all assigned classes/programmes

  • Pro-actively contribute to the success and vision of the department

Education & Training

  • Level 3 Barbering Qualification

  • Assessor Award, or willing to work towards one.

  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale

  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale

Experience 

  • Current experience of successful working in the barbering industry

  • Experience in the effective design and delivery of high-quality inclusive learning and assessment activities

  • A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the relevant industry requirements

  • Experience in excellent business engagement/building links with industry partners
